Two collaborative robots work together to form cardboard cases from flat blanks and pack multiple ice cream multipacks into each case before it moves on to be sealed.
A frozen confectionery manufacturer relied on manual labour to form cases and pack ice cream multipacks into them, repetitive work across shifts that was becoming increasingly hard to keep staffed, with the client struggling to find enough workers willing to reliably fill those roles. They needed to automate the process without slowing the line or the case sealing equipment downstream.
We installed a dual collaborative robot cell: one robot picks flat cardboard blanks from a stack and forms them into an open case, while a second robot picks multiple ice cream multipacks and loads them into the formed case. The packed case then continues on to the site’s case sealing equipment to be closed automatically, with the two robots working in sequence to keep pace with the line.
The client now runs automated case forming and packing for their ice cream multipacks, removing a manual packing step from the line while keeping pace with the existing case sealing equipment downstream.
