An automated inspection station checks every bottle exiting the blow moulding process for label, cosmetic, and dimensional defects, and verifies bottle weight, releasing or rejecting each bottle automatically without manual sampling.
A manufacturer producing multiple bottle shapes and SKU variants needed reliable, automated quality control at the point of production, catching defects across label placement, plastic finish, and cap sealing geometry that manual checks couldn’t consistently catch at line speed, without slowing the line or tying up staff to inspect every bottle by hand.
We designed and installed an inspection station combining three cameras and a weigh scale along a single, guided and guarded conveyor section. Bottles travel single file through the station, with the cameras checking handle tab detachment, label application, alignment and type front and back, flashing at the mould seam, and surface streaking, while a further check measures neck and thread circularity to confirm the cap will seal properly. The weigh scale verifies bottle weight against specification. The system handles multiple bottle shapes and SKU label and colour variants, and automatically rejects any bottle that fails inspection.
The client now runs fully automated bottle inspection at the point of production, covering weight, handle completion, label accuracy and placement, flashing, streaking, and cap sealing geometry, with defective bottles rejected automatically and no reliance on manual sampling. This gives consistent quality coverage across multiple bottle shapes and SKU variants without slowing the line.
